Strategy Overview:

This project encourages students to apply psychiatric concepts to a fictional character from a media source. The student selects any fictional character (could be from a TV show, movie, book, etc.) that displays manifestations of a personality disorder. After identifying the personality disorder (and corresponding cluster), the student develops a comprehensive plan of care for that character. The student also analyzes the effect that personality-disorder-related behaviors have on relationships and social functioning. The plan should also incorporate interdisciplinary team members and identify potential safety risks. Finally, the information that was developed is presented in a creative way.

Evaluation Description:

Students will be evaluated based on the appropriateness of their chosen interventions, the incorporation of interdisciplinary team members, presentation skills, and the ability to maintain safety through the chosen interventions. A rubric is provided for the activity. Students often enjoy this activity because it allows them to apply nursing knowledge to their modern lives. Additionally, students enjoy the opportunity to share creatively with their peers. They often include skits, artwork, and video clips in their presentations.
