I have been involved in curriculum development related to quality improvement since 1993 with IHI. I served on the Advisory Committee for the Interdisciplinary Health Professional Education Collaborative from 1993-1999. In this project, we developed curricula for nursing, medicine, and health administration students to introduce quality improvement methods with 10 demonstration projects.. I also worked with the Partners in Quality Education project and developed a curriculum in Population Health Improvement and Micro-system Analysis for Family Nurse Practitioner students which continues to be used at VUSN for all MSN students. I participated in the IHI Idealized Clinical Office Practice for the Vine Hill Clinic of VUSN I have continued to be involved in the most recentt IHI Health Professions Education Collaborative. I developed a teaching sequence of lectures and projects using the Personal Improvement Process to teach students about quality improvement methods and how to integrate QI into patient care.

I have participated in evaluation research of the effectiveness of using the Personal Improvement Process in health professions education. Currently, I am involved in evaluating the RWJF/NWHF Partners Investing in Nursing’s Future initiative which is a multi-year cohort project using a quality improvement framework for the evaluation.
