Program Experience
RN-BSN, BSN, ABSN, GraduateQSEN Expertise
I have worked with QSEN from the outset in defining the competencies. I have participated in designing and implementing curricular innovations and evaluation methods, working with faculty to develop pedagogies in teaching quality and safety competencies, and matching assessment with teaching approaches. I have designed and completed research related to teamwork and collaboration, particularly using TeamSTEPPS. I have recent faculty practice experience in a Magnet facility to develop a professional practice model, implement quality measures, building partnerships to bridge academia and practice, expand leadership capacity and manage change.
Competency Expertise
While I have worked with educators to integrate all the competencies, my primary specialties are teamwork and collaboration, patient centered care and safety. I have worked with various levels of health care providers around change, innovation, and developing leadership capacity and healthy work environments.
Teaching Expertise
My primary experience is with didactic, interactive teaching approaches which can be applied in both classroom and clinical settings.
Research Expertise
My work with QSEN is built on a sustained program of research in caring applied to patient centered care, teamwork, and measuring quality outcomes of pain management, primarily applying qualitative methods. Most recently, I participated in the QSEN survey projects and research to measure the effectiveness of different methods of teaching interprofessional teamwork.
