A Bridge to Practice Model
The focus of this project is to develop the QSEN competencies within a sequence of medical surgical nursing courses for students enrolled in the Bridge to Practice model - a cohort program initially implemented in conjunction with George Washington University Hospital. Emphasis will be placed on experiential learning to help students apply knowledge from didactic courses, develop associated skills and internalize professional values inherent in QSEN-based practice. This project will focus on teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, and informatics. Introduction of PDA technology and unfolding cases will be included as resources to develop competencies in informatics, evidence-based practice and safety.

Publications and Presentations

Clinical Evaluations Using KSA's:Developing Tools and Strategies Uses all of the knowledge, skills, attitudes (KSA’s): published by QSEN as a key template in the basis of a clinical evaluation tool. Hence, the tool is accurate in reflecting the clinical capabilities of each student in an objective, quantitative fashion with a focus on quality and safety in health care. Each competency is described in this evaluation tool.
