Program Experience
BSN, Accelerated BSN, and RN-BSNQSEN Expertise
I have been involved in development of both student learning strategies as well as faculty development. Our team created a video that can be used to teach students about the QSEN competencies as well as provide faculty with a deeper understanding of the competencies. We have also implemented safety brown bags and a QSEN newsletter for faculty. We have asked students to focus on hand-offs, SBAR, TeamSTEPPS, root cause analysis, and have implemented alternative clinical strategies to reinforce application of the QSEN competencies.
Competency Expertise
Safety, patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement
Teaching Expertise
Classroom, skills labs, and clinical teaching
Research Expertise
My colleague and I are developing a knowledge and skills tool for use with students to evaluate changes about quality and safety based on the addition of related classroom content. We are in the beginning stages of testing the tool. We have also conducted qualitative interviews to evaluate the learning outcomes when clinical activities are added to enhance learning of quality and safety content.
